What is The Importance of Cruelty-Free Haircare?
The term “cruelty-free” is often used to describe products that have not been tested on animals. The problem with animal testing is that it can not only be very inhumane but also cruel and unnecessary. Which begs the question why are there still places that are testing on animals when there are now numerous alternative methods of testing that do not involve animals and are just as effective, if not more so?
Did you know that cruelty-free not only saves the lives of animals but products that are cruelty-free have less harsh chemicals, which results in better, healthier hair. So, it is a win-win option for everyone. There are many reasons why people might want to switch to a cruelty-free haircare routine with the most obvious reason being that it is not cruel to animals.
Another reason to switch to cruelty-free haircare products is that they are often made with better ingredients and are less harsh on your hair which results in healthier, better-looking hair.
Wellness starts from within, so it is essential to be conscious of what products you use on your skin and hair. Why not start by ditching the harsh chemicals and opting for more natural ingredients to see the importance of cruelty-free haircare for yourself.
Finally, when you choose cruelty-free products, you are supporting companies that care about being humane and environmentally responsible with the bottom line being when you know better, you do better.
Why Aveda is 100% vegan?
When it comes to haircare, Aveda is the leader in cruelty-free products. In fact, all of their haircare products are vegan. This means that none of their products are tested on animals and they do not use any animal ingredients.
Aveda is committed to creating products that are not only cruelty-free but also vegan. All of their products are made with plant-based ingredients which means that they do not use any animal-derived ingredients and they do not test any of their products on animals. They are also a member of the Leaping Bunny Program, which is an international organization that promotes and verifies humane practices in the cosmetics industry. When you purchase Aveda products, you can be sure that you are supporting a company that cares about being cruelty-free and environmentally responsible.
Aveda was one of the first beauty companies to end animal testing over 30 years ago. In 1990, they helped pioneer the “cradle to grave” concept of environmental responsibility in business — which means that from the time their products are harvested to when they are returned to the earth, they strive to leave as little impact on the planet as possible. So it should come as no surprise that not only are their products cruelty-free, but they are also 100% vegan.
Aveda’s commitment to creating cruelty-free hair care doesn’t stop at not testing on animals — they also don’t use any animal-derived ingredients in their products which means that their haircare, skincare, makeup and fragrance products are all vegan.
When you choose Aveda products, you can be sure that you are not only getting high-quality products, but you are also supporting a company that is committed to being cruelty-free and environmentally responsible.
Aveda’s commitment to being cruelty-free and vegan goes beyond just their haircare products. They are also involved in numerous charitable initiatives that promote animal welfare and environmental responsibility. For example, Aveda partners with the Humane Society International to help end animal testing worldwide. They also support reforestation initiatives through their partnership with The Nature Conservancy. By choosing Aveda, you are not only getting high-quality haircare products, but you are also supporting a company that is committed to making a positive difference in the world.
The next time you are shopping for haircare products, take a moment to consider whether or not they are cruelty-free. If they are not, think about switching to a brand like Aveda that is 100% vegan and does not test on animals. Not only will you be helping animals, but you will also be doing your part to help the environment. When it comes to haircare, it is important to choose products that are good for you, good for the environment, and good for the animals. Aveda ticks all of those boxes, so why not give them a try? You might just be surprised at how much better your hair looks and feels.
What does Aveda do for our planet?
When Horst Rechelbacher founded Aveda in 1978, he established a powerful mission to care for our planet, everyone and everything that lives on it. This, among many other things, is why they have always been opposed to animal testing. Now nearly 45 years later, they are expanding their commitment to animal welfare by attaining Leaping Bunny Approval, the gold standard of approval via Cruelty Free International.
Protecting our planet and its inhabitants is vital to their mission of establishing priorities in 6 distinctive areas:
– Safe beauty that is carefully sourced.
– Responsible packaging.
– Planet-conscious manufacturing.
– Helping to provide clean water to people in need globally and to protect clean water locally.
– Producing vegan formulas.
Although they have been opposed to animal testing since since 1978, they are always seeking ways to improve and grow. In 2020, they made the critical decision to become 100% vegan, thereby removing all animal products and by-products from their formulas. Now and forever, all of their formulas are free of ingredients like beeswax and honey, relying instead on high-performing and better alternatives.
The Leaping Bunny certification program and what it means for Aveda
Aveda are proud to have achieved Leaping Bunny Approval. This exciting certification highlights their pledge to become a more transparent company, while honouring their cruelty-free standards. “Aveda was founded on the principle to care for the world we live in, and this includes always being opposed to animal testing,” notes Barbara De Laere, Aveda’s Global Brand President. “We have been a leader in sustainability for more than 40 years, and we are proud to underscore this commitment to our planet and inhabitants with our Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny approval, the internationally-acclaimed gold standard for cruelty-free cosmetics.”
The Leaping Bunny certification program is the most rigorous in the industry, and requires extensive audits of ingredients and suppliers. The approval allows Aveda to use the iconic Leaping Bunny logo on product packaging and marketing materials which further solidifies their commitment to being a cruelty-free company. “We are honoured to receive this important certification from Cruelty Free International,” says Antoinette Beenders, Aveda’s Chief Creative Officer. “This achievement is a result of our long-standing commitment to being cruelty-free — a principle that has been embedded in our brand DNA since 1978 when Horst founded Aveda.”
Achieving Leaping Bunny Approval is just one way Aveda is working to be more transparent about their ingredients and manufacturing processes. In 2019, they launched the first-of-its-kind app called The Source which allows customers to scan any Aveda product and instantly see where its ingredients come from — and whether those suppliers follow sustainable practices. The Source was created in partnership with Trace Trust, an organization that uses blockchain technology to increase transparency in global supply chains.
The app is currently comprised of information on over 90% of Aveda’s products and will soon include data on every single one of their formulas. “We are committed to increasing transparency around our ingredients and sourcing practices,” says Danica Lo, Aveda’s Executive Vice President, General Manager.
This is an amazing step in the right direction in highlighting the importance of cruelty-free haircare and is setting the best example for other brands to follow.
